At Jamaica Invitational Jamaica’s Powell, Bahamas’ Miller win 200m titles

After drawing cheers from the crowd while stripping down for his race, Jamaica’s Asafa Powell lived up to expectations by winning the 200-metre dash at the Jamaica International Invitational in 20.45 seconds.
Powell, whose personal best of 19.90 was at the same venue in 2006, led from start to finish but just held on to claim the win over the USA’s Bejee Lee and Jamaica’s Rasheed Dwyer, who crossed the line together and were both credited with 20.52s.

Earlier, Shaune Miller easily won the women’s race in 22.14s.
Miller ran a strong curve and then pulled away from the field down the stretch well ahead of Aneisha McLaughlin-Whilby, 22.79, and Shalonda Solomon, 22.80.
World Championship 400-metre bronze medalist Shericka Jackson was fourth in 22.86s.
2013 World Champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, who was down to compete, did not start.
