Crooks target Aidonia ... Scammers using fake Facebook pages to book artiste
With a United States visa back in his possession for the first time in six years, dancehall artiste Aidonia has set his sights on making up for lost time in the North American market.
But the artiste and his management team have been forced to go on
the attack against persons posing as booking agents in order to rob potential promotors out of their money.
"There has been a growing demand for Aidonia to perform in North America but because of the travel hindrance he was not able to do so. Now, with the clearance from the United States embassy, what people are trying to do is to pose as agents to capitalize on that high demand," Aidonia's publicist, Raymond "Shadow" Small said.
He said that several phony Aidonia pages have emerged on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Small said further that steps have been taken to shutdown the fake pages even though he said new ones are being constantly created by the scammers.
In the wake of the massive scam, Aidonia and his management team have issued a warning to prospective clients telling them to beware of fraudulent mediums being used to book the dancehall artiste.
"I do not handle my own bookings and it definitely would not be over social media," Aidonia said yesterday.
Small said that Aidonia and the management team are aware that if they are not vigilant in dealing with this matter there is a great risk that the Nuh Boring Gal artise name could be damaged.
"Potential promotors are going to say that they have paid over funds to the management of Aidonia for a show and then the artiste becomes a no-show. All of those things can damage the reputation of the artiste and the industry because some people are going to say entertainers do not have good business ethics," Small said.
Headline Entertainment on Tuesday announced that it is now Aidonia's exclusive booking agent for all US territories.
Headline Entertainment is a leading booking agency and public relations firm operating in the Caribbean. Its list of clients includes Sean Paul, Barrington Levy, Damian 'Jr Gong' Marley, Freddie McGegor, Konshens, Coco Tea, Romain Virgo and others.
