Messi needs Argentina to end title drought

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi has urged the rest of the team to fulfil its potential to break a 23-year title drought by claiming the Copa Centenario title later this month.
La Albiceleste have failed to lift a major title since the 1993 Copa America trophy, but in recent excursions have gone close on several occasions.  In the last two years Argentina lost both the 2014 World Cup final to Germany and the 2015 Copa America title to hosts
Chile.
The Barcelona superstar believes it is full time the team made good on the potential to be champions and the upcoming tournament will provide an excellent opportunity.
“It has been a very long time since Argentina has won anything, and this group came very close in the World Cup and at the last Copa America,” Messi told Sports Illustrated on the eve of the tournament.
“I think we deserve to be champions of an important competition.”
The special edition tournament, which will celebrate 100 years of its existence, will get under way on Friday with the United States taking on Colombia, while Argentina opens their campaign against Chile in Santa Clara on Monday
