Reggae Singer Ziggy Marley is slated to perform at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre in California on August 12. It will be Marley’s second time playing at the venue since 2013.
The 47-year-old Grammy-winning singer will be using the opportunity to promote his latest studio album Ziggy Marley, released on May 20.
Ziggy Marley, his sixth effort, is the follow-up to Fly Rasta, which took home the
Best Reggae Album in 2015.
In an interview with GQ Magazine, Marley said he was very hands-on with his latest project which bears his production credits.
“It’s the album I’ve been most hands-on with: engineering, mixing, songwriting. I put all of myself into it,” Marley was quoted as saying.
He said he was unfazed by the world’s expectations.
“I don’t carry any weight,” he said.
A former member of the sibling group Melody Makers, Marley said while they’ve grown up they’ve stayed true to their roots.
“This is a family. Whatever we are is the same way we grow up—nothing has changed, really. Each individual role is important.” He sees himself less as a patriarch than as a “voice of reason”. Still, there’s a clear “hierarchy of the elders, the adults, which is Cedella, me, and Sharon (the oldest). Stephen is a bridge to the younger one, who wasn’t around Bob a lot.”
The eldest son of reggae king Bob Marley, Ziggy has gigs planned for the Historic Ashland in Oregon, OC Fair Summer Concert Seties in California, and Magic City Blues Music Festival in Montana.
