VCB happy with fast 100-metre opener

Two of track and field brightest emerging stars, Tori Bowie and Dafne Schippers, demonstrated in Doha Friday that they will be forces to be reckoned with in the blue riband sprint come this summer at the Olympic Games in Rio.
Bowie won a close race in a world-leading 10.80s over Schippers, who was a whisker behind in 10.83.

Not far behind them was Veronica Campbell-Brown, the wily old veteran, who was showing that she too could be a spoiler this summer.
“For the most part I felt good tonight, trusting the process,” the 2007 World Champion posted on social media following her third place finish in 10.91s.
The two-time Olympic 200-metre champion would have been confident coming into Friday’s meet following her 22.29s clocking in Clermont, Florida last weekend which suggested she was rounding into the kind of form that eluded her last season before she surprised everyone including herself by winning bronze in the half-lap at the World Championships in Beijing, China in a season-best 21.97.
Friday’s run would have given her a very familiar feeling. “Thank you Lord for a successful run,” she said.
