Jamaica’s Fellan Ferguson has re-written the record books at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). Ferguson, who is coached by fellow Jamaican Lennox Graham, broke nine school records and won the Pettis Norman Award as Athlete of the Year for the 2015-16 year at the annual Smitty’s Golden Awards at Biddle Hall.
The girl from Trelawny, the same parish as Usain Bolt, also won the Most Valuable
Performer in Women’s Cross Country. During the winter Fellan earned NCAA Indoor All-American honors in the 800m and 4×400 relays and was named the Atlantic Region Indoor Runner of the Year.
And just two weeks ago, Ferguson captured the CIAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m and the 1500m and took third place in the 3000m, helping the JCSU women to the CIAA Championship.
For her performances, she was named the CIAA Outdoor Track Most Valuable Performer.
This season, she has posted NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 400m and as a member of the 4x400m relay team. She also has returned an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:07.47 in the 800m, which ranks as the third-fastest mark in the nation to date.
