Lately Jamaica’s Shanice Love continues to improve every time she steps into a throwing ring.
The 19-year-old Excelsior High discus thrower set a new National Junior Record on Day One of the Penn Relays, currently under way in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Competing in the High School Girls discus throw, Love threw 54.72 metres to set a new national junior record and a new Penn Relays record, breaking the mark of 54.29m set by
Holmwood Technical’s Gleneve Grange in 2013.
Love has now broken the national junior record for the second time in a month, having set a mark of 54.70m at the MVP Track and Field Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston on April 16.
Elena Bruckner of Valley Christian High, the world number two in the event, was second in the event with a mark of 54.44.
Jamaica came away with two medals from the event as Hydel’s Devia Brown finished third with her best effort of 48.34m.
