Djokovic conquer both Bolt and Messi to Laureus award

Tennis star Novak Djokovic beat football star Lionel Messi and sprint legend Usain Bolt to this year’s Laureus World Sports Awards.
Djokovic picked up the award for a second consecutive year after winning three Grand Slams, which included the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon titles.  The player also claimed six Masters titles in an impressive year.  Djokovic’s win-loss record was also a jaw
dropping 82-6.
It was a clean sweep for tennis as the women’s award went to American star Serena Williams.  Williams won her third award despite missing out on the season Grand Slam.  The world number one fell at the US Open hurdle after claiming the Australian, French and Wimbledon crowns.
Williams fended off middle distance runner Genzebe Dibaba and skier Anna Fenniger of Austria for the title.  The New Zealand Rugby Union World Cup team, the All Blacks, were named as team of the year after beating Australia 34-17 in the World Cup final.
